The Florida Communications Unit Supports the Florida Division of Emergency Management with Incident Communications position specific training.
Courses offered include Communications Unit Leader/FEMA E/L969 (COML), Incident Tactical Dispatcher (INTD), Auxiliary Communications (AUXCOMM), and our Flagship program,
All-Hazards Communications Technician (COMT), the Florida Disaster Communications School. PACE planning workshops and ESF2 awareness modules are also available on request.
These training opportunities are offered annually to prepare individuals to begin the qualification process, under Florida's ESF-2 communications credentialing guidelines. All-Hazards Incident Management Team (AHIMT) qualification for COML is also available in Florida. Personnel and select volunteers that attend state sponsored COMU training are assigned in many capacities. These range from 911 telecommunicators, center managers, US&R communications specialists, Mutual Aid Radio Communications (MARC) teams, agency radio technicians, first responder personnel and regional Incident Management Teams.
FLCOMU assists in planning, hosting and supporting annual communications drills and advanced training evolutions (MARConi), and assists other states and associations with communications exercise planning.
